Siliguri, 14th July: The ‘Aranya Saptaha 2026’ programme has started in Siliguri to spread awareness about environmental protection and promote greenery. The week-long programme, being held from July 14 to July 20, aims to highlight the importance of conservation and increase public awareness across the city.
Organised by the Baikunthapur Forest Division, the initiative focuses on creating awareness among people about environmental protection and building a greener and healthier environment for future generations. The programme was officially inaugurated at Baghajatin Park on Tuesday.
As part of the initiative, a special tableau was launched, which will travel across different parts of the city to spread the message of environmental conservation. Tree plantation drives and sapling distribution programmes will also be conducted.
According to the Forest Department, a target has been set to plant a total of 1.10 crore saplings under the initiative.
Various programmes including plantation drives, awareness camps, and social activities will be organised with participation from schools, colleges, and voluntary organisations. The administration stated that collective efforts towards environmental protection can make Siliguri greener, cleaner, and more sustainable.
