Amit Shah in Darjeeling: Promises constitutional solution to the problems of Gorkhas

Darjeeling, 13th April: As politics heats up in the poll-bound state, BJP is aggressively campaigning in various constituencies with the party’s prominent leaders. Likewise, Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a public gathering in Darjeeling’s Lebong ground today.


In his address, Shah maintained that the nation’s Constitution has the solution to every problem. “I promise you all, we will find a resolution to the issues of the Gorkhas,” Shah stated to which the crowds applauded and roared with ‘Jai Gorkha’ slogan.


The Home Minister said that if BJP forms government in West Bengal, it will provide the status of Scheduled Tribe (ST) to the excluded 11 Gorkha sub-communities. Accusing the state CM Mamata Banerjee of not attending any meeting on the issue, he appealed to the people of Darjeeling to help the saffron party win the election and appoint a BJP chief minister in the state.

Shah also paid homage to Gorkha great freedom fighters Dal Bahadur Giri, Helen Lepcha, Gaga Tshering Dukpa, Pushpa Kumar Ghising and others. He acknowledged legendary mountaineer Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and literary icon Dr Indra Bahadur Rai as the pride of the nation and stated that despite being a small place the Darjeeling region has contributed immensely towards our nation building.

Besides the Home Minister, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, BJP’s MLA candidates Neeraj Zimba from Darjeeling assembly, B. P. Bajgain from Kurseong assembly, GNLF president Mann Ghising, CPRM Chief R. B. Rai were present in the meeting.
