Alipurduar, 11th December: In a distressing incident, a young woman committed suicide on video call with her fiancé. The incident made headlines on Monday in the Subasini Tea Estate region located in Kalchini block, Alipurduar. The deceased woman has been identified as Rita Bhokta.
As per details gathered, Rita’s marriage was scheduled for January, with a local of the Binnaguri, Dinesh Bhokta. In a tragic turn of events, on Sunday night, Rita allegedly killed herself on a video call with her fiancé. Panic triggered Dinesh hurriedly called a friend of Rita and alerted her of the incident. Following this, the family members busted down the door and found the young woman’s body hanging from the noose.
Rita was immediately rescued and rushed to the Latabari Hospital where the medical professionals declared her dead. Meanwhile, the officials of the Kalchini police station hurried to the scene and retrieved the body. The body was thereafter transported to the Alipurduar district hospital for an autopsy. At present, the entire incident is under further police investigation.
