Jalpaiguri, 23rd July: An adult leopard was trapped in a cage set up by the Forest Department at Gairkata Tea Estate in the Dooars region on Thursday morning, bringing relief to tea estate workers.
According to reports, leopard movement had been noticed in the tea estate area for the past few days. Complaints of goats and cattle going missing had also surfaced, creating panic among workers and their families.
Considering the situation, the Binnaguri Wildlife Squad placed a cage near the pump house area on Wednesday, using a goat as bait to capture the leopard.
On Thursday morning, workers heard the roar of a leopard and rushed to the spot. They found the adult leopard trapped inside the cage.
Later, Forest Department personnel reached the area and rescued the leopard from the cage. The animal was taken away by forest officials for further action.
