Accident in Phansidewa Update: Minister Goutam Deb hands over compensation to victims’ families

Siliguri, 21st December: Within just 24 hours following the accident on the national highway in Phansidewa, State Tourism Minister Goutam Deb handed over compensation to the families of the accident victims, namely, bus conductors Mridul Das (48), Santosh Mandal (38), and Ibrahim Sheikh (35).


The Tourism Minister gave over 2 lakh rupees cheque each to the families of the deceased individuals and 25 thousand rupees cheque to the family of injured Gitangshu Ghosh, a resident of Siliguri Vidya Chakra Colony, at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. Besides, the North Bengal State Transport Corporation has started an investigation to find out the real cause of the accident.

It is to be noted that three passengers were killed in a collision between a government bus and a lorry near Bidhan Nagar Hospital in Phansidewa block, on Monday morning. The bus was heading towards Cooch Behar from Kolkata. The front portion of the bus was damaged in the accident. Several passengers were also injured in the incident. The bodies were sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
