A kilo of rice in exchange for plastic! Siliguri’s Ward No. 20 councillor Abhaya Bose starts a unique initiative

Siliguri, 14th November: Pollution due to single-use plastic items has become an important environmental challenge confronting all. In addition to this, plastic wastes are one of the key contributors to the breeding of dengue vectors. This adds more to the concern especially when the city is under the grip of dengue havoc for the past month. 


Aiming to contain the spread of dengue and spread awareness regarding the dangers of plastic pollution, Ward No. 20 Councillor Abhaya Bose of Siliguri Municipal Corporation has started a unique initiative. Under this endeavour of the Councillor, any individual who will deposit 119 single-use plastic bags dumped in the drains and roads at the Ward Committee Office will be provided with one kilogram of rice. The Councillor was spotted interacting with the ward residents and spreading awareness about keeping the ward clean.
