Siliguri, 23rd February: The ninth annual sports competition of the Metropolitan Police commenced at Siliguri Commissionerate Ground, on Wednesday. The two-day competition was inaugurated by Siliguri Police Commissioner Gaurav Sharma, where the East, West, Winners, Traffic and Nishan Toli teams will be participating.
“Today is a very important day. Nine years ago, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had set up the Siliguri Metropolitan Police Commissionerate. Since then, every year, an annual sports competition is organized at the Commissionerate ground,” Commissioner Gaurav Sharma said addressing the media.
He further said that in order to live a healthy life, a person should spend at least 45 minutes in sports. When he was an additional SP in Siliguri, the police personnel used to organize morning walks every Wednesday, master parades on Mondays, and various other sports. However, everything is closed as of now due to the pandemic.
