40 cartons of lighters from Nepal seized from a warehouse in Siliguri, one arrested

Siliguri, 20th February: In a recent development, the Special Operation Group (SOG) and Siliguri police station have seized a large number of lighters illegally transported from Nepal in Siliguri. In addition, a businessman identified as Lalan Mahato (60) was arrested.


According to sources, the SOG received a tip-off regarding the illegal storage of a large number of lighters at a warehouse in Siliguri’s Khalpara area. Acting on the information, the SOG conducted a joint operation with the Siliguri police station and recovered 40 cartons packed with lighters. The seized lighters numbering 1.2 lakh pieces are estimated to hold a market value of about Rs 12 lakh.

Following this, businessman Lalan Mahato was arrested for illegally storing the items. Later, the SOG handed over the arrested accused to the Siliguri police station. At present, the Siliguri police station is engaged in a further course of action.
