13 BJP leaders and activists taken into jail custody for tearing posters of CM

Siliguri, 09th December: After several BJP leaders and activists allegedly tore the posters of state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee yesterday, the Siliguri police arrested 13 leaders including BJP’s Yuva Morcha leader Kanchan Debnath and Sourav Sarkar.


Reportedly, cases have been filed under 6 sections. The arrested were produced before the Siliguri court today and were taken into 14 days of jail custody.

It is to be noted that BJP called for a 12-hour bandh across North Bengal on Tuesday condemning the death of party worker Ulen Roy and alleged police harassment during the Uttarkanya campaign on Monday. Several BJP workers took to the streets yesterday in support of the bandh. During the course, they allegedly tore down and burnt the poster of Mamata Banerjee at Mahatma Gandhi more. Following which, a huge police force reached the spot and arrested 13 BJP leaders and activists.
