Kharibari, 18th June: The Land and Land Reforms Department, with assistance from the police, made 11.78 acres of government land encroachment-free in the Bhatagachh area under Buraganj Gram Panchayat in Kharibari.

According to reports, the land had allegedly been under the occupation of outsiders for a long time. Despite repeated objections and complaints from local residents, no action had reportedly been taken earlier.

After a change in the state government, locals once again lodged complaints regarding the alleged encroachment with the Kharibari Land and Land Reforms Department. Acting on the complaint, authorities conducted an operation and freed 11.78 acres of government land from encroachment. A government signboard was also installed at the site.

The action has brought relief and happiness to residents of Bhatagachh village. Locals said they had been raising the issue for a long time and now hope the land remains under government control and is utilised for public welfare projects.

BLRO Pratima Subba stated that attempts had been made twice earlier to free the land from encroachment, but those efforts had faced obstacles. She added that the land has now been successfully made encroachment-free and that similar action will be taken to free other government lands in the area from encroachment in the future.
