Youth arrested with 300 grams of brown sugar in Siliguri

Siliguri, 23rd June: A joint operation by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Siliguri Metropolitan Police and Bhakti Nagar Police foiled an alleged drug trafficking attempt, leading to the seizure of 300 grams of brown sugar and the arrest of one person.

The arrested individual has been identified as Abhishek Giri alias Guddu, a resident of Prakash Nagar under the Bhakti Nagar Police Station area.

According to police sources, the SOG received a tip-off about the delivery of narcotic substances in the area. Acting on the information, a joint team conducted a raid near Shaheed Nagar More, beneath the Raja Rammohan Roy Bridge.

During the operation, police spotted a youth standing in a suspicious manner with a motorcycle. A search led to the recovery of approximately 300 grams of brown sugar from his possession, following which he was arrested on the spot.

Police suspect that the accused was involved in supplying brown sugar to different parts of Siliguri after procuring it from outside the city. He had allegedly arrived at the location on Monday evening to deliver the contraband when he was apprehended.

A case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act. Bhakti Nagar Police are set to produce him before the Jalpaiguri court, while further investigation into the case is underway.
