Woman killed in an elephant attack; Rajganj MLA meets bereaved family

Rajganj, 18th May: A tragic incident occurred in the Nadhabari area of Mantadari Gram Panchayat in Rajganj block, where a woman lost her life in an elephant attack. On Saturday, Rajganj MLA Khageswar Roy, along with Zilla Parishad Chairman Krishna Roy Barman and Jalpaiguri Zilla Parishad Electricity Karmadhyaksha Ranbir Majumdar, visited the bereaved family to offer their condolences.


On Friday, Beauty Roy was attacked by an elephant while she was passing through a forest road near Nadhabari. Following her death, local residents, incensed by the tragedy, confronted the police and forest department officials when they arrived on the scene. The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in injuries to four forest personnel and damage to two Forest Department vehicles. The incident has created a tense atmosphere in the area.

Sources revealed that Beauty Roy had been married to Satik Roy for about three years and leaves behind a two-year-old son. The community is in mourning, and residents have called for increased monitoring and the installation of watchtowers by the forest department to prevent such incidents in the future.


Upon receiving the news, MLA Khageswar Roy and Zilla Parishad Chairman Krishna Roy Barman visited the grieving family. MLA Khageswar Roy expressed his deep sorrow over the incident and conveyed his sympathies to the family. He also emphasized the urgent need for a watchtower in the area to enhance safety measures, promising that steps will be taken soon to construct one.
