Wild elephant herd wreak havoc at a school in Siliguri, ransack mid-day meal items

Siliguri, 30th January: A herd of wild elephants entered a government-aided school in Siliguri and consumed all the food items from the mid-day meal. The incident took place at the Choto Fapri Nepali Primary School located adjacent to Siliguri.

According to reports, the elephants have frequently invaded the school premises for the past three days. On Monday night, the wild tuskers entered the school grounds and consumed all the grains and vegetables stocked for the mid-day meal for the students. The incident came to light when the school teacher arrived earlier on Tuesday and found that all the items were scattered. The elephants had consumed one quintal worth of rice, pulses, and potatoes.

It is to be mentioned that the guardians of the students have repeatedly urged for the construction of walls bounding the school grounds for the safety of the students. However, the demands were not met with adequate outcomes. The recent incident prompted agitation as the parents protested over the matter and locked the teachers in the school. Further, the BDO official was also contacted regarding the matter.

Meanwhile, the officials of the Ashighar Outpost received the information and swiftly arrived at the location to restore normalcy.
