Rajganj, 12th May: A 36-year-old man allegedly died by suicide after his wife left home, leaving behind their eight-year-old son. The tragic incident occurred in Sarkar Para of Barabhita, under Majhiali Gram Panchayat in Rajganj. The deceased has been identified as Biplab Sarkar.
According to family sources, Biplab, who worked as a mason in Kerala, had married Priyanka Roy of Haldibari nine years ago in a love marriage. The couple has one son. While Biplab was away for work, Priyanka reportedly became active on social media, posting various reel videos, which had caused concern within the family.
A few weeks ago, Priyanka left for her father’s house, leaving their child at her in-laws’ home. However, the next day she told her parents she was going to the market but did not return. Later, she informed them over a phone call that she had gone to Bangalore with a woman and would not be coming back.
Distressed by the situation, Biplab returned from Kerala a week ago and reportedly made several unsuccessful attempts to convince his wife to return. On Sunday night around 8 p.m., he left home. His body was later found hanging from a tree not far from his residence.
Police from Rajganj reached the spot and recovered the body. It was sent to Jalpaiguri Medical College for post-mortem on Monday. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
