Bagdogra, 21st September: Bagdogra police, in a joint operation with the Special Operations Group of Siliguri Metropolitan Police, arrested three youths allegedly wanted in connection with a murder case in Haryana. The accused were arrested from Muni More while they were reportedly waiting on National Highway 31 towards Siliguri-Kolkata.
According to information, a dispute broke out between two groups in Kurukshetra, Haryana, on the night of September 14 over a vehicle being moved aside. During the incident, several youths allegedly attacked Gurpreet Singh and his relative Gagandeep Singh with sticks and swords. CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced on social media.
Locals rushed Gurpreet Singh and Gagandeep Singh to a hospital following the attack. Gurpreet Singh subsequently died while undergoing treatment on Saturday morning. The incident took place on Gurpreet Singh’s birthday.
Following his death, family members and local residents staged protests, including a demonstration on the road with the body. A written complaint was subsequently lodged by the family at the police station.
The three accused had reportedly been absconding since the incident. Acting on a tip-off, Bagdogra police arrested Jasandeep Singh, Karan Kaushal and Ashish Singh. All three are residents of Haryana.
According to police sources, the accused were allegedly planning to flee to Nepal through Bagdogra. They had reportedly stayed in Bhutan before taking shelter at a hideout in Siliguri.
The accused are being taken on transit remand, following which Haryana Police will leave with them for Haryana.
