Fulbari, 21st September: Police recovered a marble idol of Lord Shani from the waters of the Teesta Canal near Kanchanbari, adjacent to Fulbari, on Monday. The idol had allegedly been stolen from a Shani temple in the area.
According to information, the marble idol was allegedly stolen from a Shani temple in Kanchanbari on Friday night. On Saturday morning, temple members noticed that the idol was missing when they arrived for worship and subsequently lodged a written complaint at New Jalpaiguri police station.
During the investigation, police detained a young man. Police sources said that during questioning, he allegedly revealed that the idol had been thrown into the Teesta Canal.
Based on the information, police began a search in the Teesta Canal in Fulbari on Monday. After searching the water for around an hour, police recovered the stolen Lord Shani idol.
The recovery brought relief to the temple authorities. Temple committee member Dipak Singh said the idol had been stolen on Friday night and that they discovered the incident the following morning. He thanked the police for their prompt action in recovering the idol.
Police are also investigating whether anyone else was involved in the incident.
