Naxalbari, 21st September: Naxalbari Block Congress leaders submitted a memorandum to the Naxalbari Gram Panchayat on Monday, raising seven demands related to alleged irregularities and various civic issues in the area.
The Congress leaders marched from their party office to the gram panchayat and handed over the memorandum to the pradhan. District Congress working president Amitava Sarkar, Naxalbari Block Congress president Mohammad Imran, Anchal president Nepal Ghosh, Block general secretary Ujjwal Das and others were present.
Amitava Sarkar alleged that the gram panchayat’s Upa pradhan had recently been arrested in connection with allegations of financial embezzlement. He demanded greater transparency in the use of the panchayat’s own funds, including displaying expenditure details on the notice board for expenses exceeding Rs 10,000.
Sarkar also alleged that work under the 125-day employment scheme had not yet started in the Naxalbari area despite new government directives.
He further raised concerns over the poor condition of several important roads, drains and street lights across Naxalbari. He also alleged that the gram panchayat had failed to ensure doorstep drinking water supply.
Sarkar claimed that drinking water had reached only one mouza among the 29 sansads, while the remaining areas were yet to receive household water connections.
He said that if the demands were not addressed within a month, the Congress would launch another protest.
