Villagers of Chhattargachh call for election boycott after unfulfilled promises

Rajganj, 04th March: The locals of Chhattargachh village situated near the Indo-Bangladesh border of Sannyasikata Gram Panchayat of Rajganj block have called for a boycott of forthcoming elections claiming that non of their requests have been fulfilled.

Reportedly, the Dahuk River flows from the middle of the said village and hence the residents of Chaturagachh, Jummagachh, Dilugachh, Koyar Bari, and Nabagram villages have been struggling with transportation problems for decades due to the absence of a bridge. The villagers commute through the BSF CPWD road which is prohibited to use in the evening. Therefore, the villagers have to stay at home after sunset. The problem gets even worse during the rainy season.

The villagers alleged that despite making numerous appeals to the concerned departments for 20 years, a bridge has not been built over the Dahuk River. They further accused the political leaders of making fake promises before the elections and paying no heed to them the moment the polls end. Hence, this time, they are planning to completely boycott the upcoming assembly elections.

Addressing the matter, Sannyasikata Anchal’s chairman Roshan Habib, said that although all the procedures for the construction of the bridge have been completed, they are however unable to start the work due to the implementation of the election code of conduct in the state. He assured that the construction of the bridge will start after the elections are over.
