UUPTA Protest: Primary teachers rally against the State Government in Siliguri

Siliguri, 12th February: A protest rally was staged by the Usthi United Primary Teachers’ Welfare Association (UUPTA) against the State Government, in Siliguri today. The rally commenced from Baghajatin Park and circled various areas of the city.


The association’s District Secretary, Tirthankar Chakraborty said that they have been demanding for a salary hike for a long time, but has not received any response so far from the State Government. In view of this, on Tuesday, the Primary Teachers’ Committee went to the Bikash Bhavan in Kolkata to submit a memorandum to the Education Minister Partha Chatterjee regarding their demands. But was detained by the Kolkata Police before they could meet the Minister. In protest against the incident, the primary teachers organized the protest rally in Siliguri today.
