West Bengal DGP Siddh Nath Gupta visits Siliguri to review security arrangements at venue of Amit Shah’s programme

Siliguri, 18th August: Preparations have intensified at Kawakhali ground in Siliguri ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s proposed programme. West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) Siddh Nath Gupta visited the city on Tuesday to review the security arrangements and preparations at the venue.

Gupta inspected Kawakhali ground and held discussions with police and administrative officials regarding the preparations and security arrangements for the programme.

According to officials, a special five-day programme will be organised at Kawakhali ground to raise public awareness about the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the new criminal laws. Through plays and other awareness programmes, people will be informed about key provisions of the new laws and the changes introduced under them.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to inaugurate the programme, which will also be attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.

In view of the Home Minister’s visit, police and the administration are making extensive security arrangements. During his inspection, the DGP reviewed the stage, entry and exit routes, parking arrangements and other security-related aspects of the venue.

Gupta also held discussions with police and administrative officials present at the site and reviewed the security plan. With a large gathering expected during the programme, police are preparing special arrangements for crowd management, traffic regulation and overall security.

Officials have been directed to ensure that there are no lapses in security at the venue.

The five-day awareness programme will use plays and other activities to explain important provisions of the BNS and other legal changes to the public in a simple and accessible manner.
