Rajganj, 08th September: Five youths have been charged with the abduction and gang-rape of two minors at Nabagram area under Sannyasikata Gram Panchayat in Rajganj.
While both the victims allegedly attempted suicide in fear of public humiliation, one died and the other is undergoing treatment at North Bengal Medical College-Hospital (NBMCH) in a critical condition.
Meanwhile, the Rajganj police have arrested the three youths on the basis of a complaint. However, the other two have been absconding since the incident.
The victim’s family alleged that the two sisters were returning home from their uncle’s house on Friday, during which they were abducted by the five youths and gang-raped in a nearby tea garden.
Reportedly, the duo returned home on Saturday and went missing again. Although they returned home, both fell sick the following day. As their condition deteriorated, they were rushed to North Bengal Medical College Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, one of the two sisters lost her life on Monday and the other is currently undergoing treatment.
Upon receiving the news, a large police force led by CI Dipajjwal Bhowmik reached the spot. Rajganj MLA Khageshwar Roy, Additional SP Sandeep Mandal, and DSP Pradeep Sarkar also reached the spot today.
Police stated that a search is being carried out to nab the remaining two accused youths and the incident is being investigated.
Meanhwile, the family members of the accused have denied all allegations.
