Siliguri, 21st June: Pradhan Nagar Police arrested two former students in connection with the theft of mid-day meal utensils from Ila Pal Choudhury School.
The accused have been identified as Artike Oraon (21) and Rahul Lohar (22), both former students of the school. According to police, the theft took place on June 2, when utensils used for the mid-day meal scheme were stolen from the school premises.
Following a complaint lodged by the school authorities, police launched an investigation. After nearly 20 days of inquiry and acting on specific inputs, investigators traced the accused and detained them for questioning. During interrogation, both allegedly confessed to their involvement in the theft.
Based on their statements, police recovered the stolen mid-day meal utensils. According to police sources, the two youths had reportedly pawned their mobile phones and were unable to retrieve them due to financial difficulties. Investigators believe they planned the theft at their former school to arrange money to reclaim the devices.
The accused were produced before the Siliguri court. Police are also investigating whether any other individuals were involved in the theft.
