Two containers collide in Rajganj’s Dasdarga area, driver rescued from mangled cabin

Rajganj, 16th October: Two containers collided in the Dasdarga area under Rajganj Assembly constituency on Tuesday night, leaving one driver trapped inside the mangled cabin. The driver was later rescued by police and fire and emergency personnel.

According to local sources, a container travelling ahead suddenly slowed down due to a speed breaker on the national highway. At that moment, another container following behind reportedly lost control and rammed into the vehicle ahead. The front portion of the rear container was severely damaged in the collision, leaving its driver injured and trapped inside the cabin.

Local residents reached the spot and attempted to rescue the driver, but the extensive damage to the front portion of the vehicle made it difficult to pull him out.

Later, personnel from Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police Station and fire and emergency services reached the spot and rescued the driver. He was subsequently sent to a hospital for treatment.

Local residents claimed that the Dasdarga area is accident-prone and that speed breakers were installed on this stretch of the national highway to reduce accidents.

However, residents alleged that accidents have increased instead of decreasing since the installation of the speed breakers. They claimed that vehicles suddenly slowing down at the speed breakers are resulting in rear-end collisions. The residents have therefore demanded that the speed breakers be removed and necessary measures be taken to prevent accidents in the area.
