Siliguri, 16th September: Temporary stalls and vans begin occupying different stretches of roads in Siliguri’s busy Bidhan Market area after evening, causing inconvenience to pedestrians.
According to local residents, the temporary stalls set up in the lanes of Bidhan Market often make it difficult for people to walk normally in the evening. Pedestrians are forced to make their way through crowded stretches, with the situation expected to become more difficult ahead of the festive season as more people visit the market for shopping.
Bidhan Market attracts not only residents of Siliguri but also people from various areas in the hills. While many visit the market for Puja shopping, others travel through the area daily for work.
Residents have urged the administration to look into the issue while keeping the livelihood of the traders in mind. They have called for measures to ensure that roads and pedestrian spaces are not obstructed and for temporary stalls to be shifted to designated areas.
