Two arrested with liquor worth Rs 6 lakh in Biddhannagar

Bidhannagar, 17th April: In a significant breakthrough ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the police has apprehended two smugglers with substantial quantity of liquor in Bidhannagar. The arrested accused have been identified as Sahadur Ali, a resident of Assam and Sachin Kumar, a resident of Bihar.


Reportedly, acting on a tip-off, the cops of Bidhannagar police station intercepted a ten-wheeler truck on National Highway (NH) 31 in Bhimbar. Upon initiating a search, a huge quantity of liquor was recovered which prompted the police to arrest the driver and the ‘Khalasi’ of the truck.

Police sources revealed that the liquor was being taken from Assam to Bihar for smuggling. The estimated market value of the recovered liquor is Rs 6 lakh. On Wednesday, the accused were produced before Siliguri Court, while further investigation is currently underway.
