Raiganj, 06th February: Forest workers of Raiganj rescued 1,500 turtles during an operation and arrested four smugglers. A pickup van and a small car have been seized.
The arrested have been identified as Yugal Barman, Tapan Sarkar, Rakesh Kumar and Vijay Kumar. The Yugal Barman and Tapan Sarkar are residents of Gangarampur (Dakshin Dinajpur), Rakesh Kumar and Vijay Kumar are residents of Uttar Pradesh.
According to the information, Raiganj Forest Department and members of the Uttar Dinajpur People for Animals jointly conducted an operation at Raiganj’s Siliguri More on NH 34 in the early hours of Saturday and successfully rescued 1,500 turtles from a pickup van. The reptiles were being smuggled to Gangarampur. The four arrested were produced in Raiganj court today.
