Tractor drivers and workers protest in Kharibari over closure of Mechi river ghat

Kharibari, 22nd February: Claiming that they are struggling to earn a living due to the closure of river ghat, the tractor drivers and labourers, on Wednesday, staged a protest at the Mechi River Ghat of Panitanki in Kharibari. They alleged that the river ghat has been closed for the past 10 months.

With the closure of their only source of income, the protesters claimed that they are facing difficulties in taking care of their families and meeting the expenses of their children’s education. The drivers and labourers stated that despite the matter being brought to the notice of the Collective Development Officer, no action was taken in this regard. Following this, the District Magistrate was also informed regarding the issue, however, to no avail.

The demonstrators warned of staging a sit-in protest in front of the Kharibari BDO office if the ghat is not opened in the next 7 days.
