Siliguri, 05th July: A major robbery attempt was foiled in Siliguri after police arrested three suspected miscreants who were reportedly planning to target jewellery shops and ATMs in the Pradhan Nagar area.
According to police, the arrests were made late on Saturday night when a plainclothes team from the Pradhan Nagar Police Station’s Anti-Crime Wing noticed a suspicious car near Milan More during a routine patrol. The occupants of the vehicle had allegedly been loitering in the area for some time, prompting the police to intercept the car.
During a search, police recovered a country-made pistol, two rounds of live ammunition, a knife, several tools believed to be used for committing crimes, and a large number of ATM cards from the vehicle and the accused.
The three arrested have been identified as Pramod Kumar Sahani, Manoj Mahato, and Sudhis Paswan, all residents of Bihar.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had covered both the front and rear number plates of their vehicle, to reportedly avoid identification through CCTV cameras. Police suspect the trio had arrived in Siliguri with plans to execute a major robbery.
Investigators are also probing whether the accused have links to any inter-state criminal gang. The ownership of the seized vehicle is being verified to determine whether it was stolen.
On Sunday, the three accused were produced before the Siliguri Court, where police sought their remand for further interrogation. Officials believe questioning the accused could lead to more information about their activities and possible criminal network.
