Temple theft in Surya Sen Colony sparks concern over security in Siliguri

Siliguri, 12th April: A brazen theft at a temple in Surya Sen Colony under NJP Police Station has triggered concern in the area over rising security issues.


The incident took place at the Radha Gobinda Temple located in Block ‘A’ of Ward No. 34 under the Siliguri Municipal Corporation.

According to reports, miscreants entered the temple by cutting through the ceiling and stole valuables, including a gold ornament from the deity’s forehead and cash from the donation box. The stolen amount is estimated to be around ₹20,000 to ₹25,000.


The incident came to light on Sunday morning when members of the temple committee arrived to open the premises and discovered the theft. Police were immediately informed, following which a team from NJP Police Station reached the spot and started an investigation.

Locals have alleged that incidents of theft have been increasing in the NJP police station area in recent times, raising concerns about law and order, even though police have managed to solve some cases.

Police sources said CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined and efforts are underway to identify and track down those involved in the theft.
