Siliguri, 18th April: A case of theft has been reported from the Ashighar Outpost area where around ₹25,000 in cash was allegedly stolen after breaking open the storage compartment of a scooty, triggering tension in the locality.
According to information, Sayan Karmakar, a resident of Pradhan Nagar police station area, had come to Niranjan Nagar under Ward No. 36 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation for some work. He parked his scooty outside his friend’s house and went to Bidhan Market for shopping.
On returning, he found that the lock of the scooty storage compartment had been broken and the cash kept inside, around ₹25,000, was missing. The incident created panic in the area.
Sayan Karmakar said he went to the market with his friend and later found the compartment broken and the money missing. Local residents reportedly informed him that two suspicious youths were seen near the scooty.
Sayan also alleged that before leaving, he had visited a garage to get his scooty horn repaired, where two individuals had allegedly seen the cash kept inside the compartment. He suspects the same persons may be involved in the theft.
A written complaint has been lodged at the Ashighar Outpost. Police have started an investigation into the matter.
