Teak wood worth Rs 50 lakh seized in Rajganj, one arrested

Rajganj, 22nd February: Forest personnel of Belakoba range seized Burma teak wood worth about Rs 50 lakh before it could be smuggled. One person identified as Eklas has been arrested in the incident. 


Reportedly, a team of Belakoba range personnel under the leadership of ranger Sanjay Dutta, launched a campaign this morning in Pani Kauri area of Rajganj on Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway. During this, a container was intercepted. Upon searching, a huge quantity of Burma teak wood was recovered from the vehicle. As he failed to produce valid documents for the consignment, the container driver Eklas, a resident of Haryana, was taken into custody. 

According to sources, on questioning the accused, it was learned that the wood was being transported from Guwahati to Kolkata. The accused will be produced in the Jalpaiguri district court tomorrow.
