BJP takes control of Rajganj Panchayat Samiti; new Sabhapati and Saha-Sabhapati elected

Rajganj, 19th August: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took control of the Rajganj Panchayat Samiti on Wednesday, with BJP’s Monika Adhikari elected as Sabhapati and Nitai Mondal elected as Saha-Sabhapati.

Of the 36 members of the Panchayat Samiti, 22 attended the election meeting. Among them, 13 were elected on TMC tickets and nine on BJP tickets. The BJP candidates secured the two key posts.

In the 2023 Panchayat elections, TMC had won 27 of the 36 seats in the Rajganj Panchayat Samiti, while the BJP had secured nine seats. However, subsequent political realignments changed the balance of power, resulting in the BJP taking control of the Sabhapati and Saha-Sabhapati posts.

Earlier, Rupali Dey Sarkar and Kabita Chhetri Saibo had served as Sabhapati and Saha-Sabhapati respectively. The Sabhapati post had remained effectively vacant for around a month before the election process was completed at the Rajganj Panchayat Samiti office on Wednesday.

Following the election, BJP workers and supporters gathered at the Panchayat Samiti office and celebrated the victory. Monika Adhikari and Nitai Mondal were felicitated with garlands.
