Naxalbari, 07th July: The Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police arrested two alleged drug traffickers in Naxalbari before they could exchange a consignment of narcotics.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mizanul Sheikh and Nasim Sheikh, both residents of Baishnabnagar in Malda district.
According to sources, the duo had allegedly travelled from Malda to Naxalbari late at night to carry out a drug exchange. Acting on a tip-off, STF officials conducted a raid at Rathkhola More in Naxalbari and detained the two suspects.
During a search, officials recovered approximately 3.5 kg of brown sugar concealed inside a shopping bag.
Following the seizure, the STF handed over the accused and the recovered narcotics to Naxalbari Police Station for further legal action.
STF sources claimed that the accused had been involved in the illegal drug trade for a long time while evading police detection.
The two accused are scheduled to be produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court. Naxalbari Police have launched a detailed investigation into the case.
