SOG exposes inter-state firearms smuggling scheme in Siliguri, two arrested

Siliguri, 02nd February: In a significant achievement, the Special Operations Group (SOG) busted an illegal firearm trafficking racket operating from Assam to Bengal and confiscated a domestic pistol and two rounds of cartridges. The incident led to the arrest of Zahirul Islam (25) and Prakash Saha (22).


According to reports, the SOG in collaboration with the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) police station raided the area adjacent to the Fulbari tollgate on Thursday night based on a tip-off. During the raid, the police seized a four-wheeler. Upon searching the vehicle, the officials recovered a domestic pistol and two rounds of ammunition. Subsequently, the accused were apprehended.

Following an interrogation, the police learned that the firearm was smuggled from Assam to Bengal. On Friday, the arrested accused were produced before the Jalpaiguri court and were taken on a seven-day police remand. At present, the police are further investigating the entire incident.
