Siliguri, 01st July: A fresh snatching incident in Ward No. 12 in Siliguri has raised concern among residents after a woman was targeted by miscreants on Wednesday morning.
According to reports, the woman had returned from Kolkata and hired a toto (e-rickshaw) from the station to reach her residence. While she was paying the fare outside her home, two youths on a scooty suddenly approached from behind and snatched her side bag before fleeing the spot.
The woman said the incident happened within moments, leaving her unable to react as the scooty sped away immediately after the snatching. The stolen bag contained a mobile phone, headphones, important documents, Aadhaar card, ATM card and house keys.
Following the incident, the woman was left shaken. Personnel from the Panitanki Outpost, along with the former councillor of Ward No. 12, reached the spot after being informed. Police have initiated an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from nearby residences to identify the accused.
Notably, Ward No. 12 has recently witnessed a similar incident, where miscreants had snatched a gold chain and ring from a man before escaping, adding to growing concern over repeated snatching cases in the area.
