Six new e-rickshaw zones fail to stop route violations in Siliguri; traffic police launch special drive

Siliguri, 10th September: The Siliguri Metropolitan Police has launched a special drive against e-rickshaw (toto) drivers violating designated routes, despite the introduction of six new e-rickshaw zones aimed at reducing traffic congestion and regulating e-rickshaw operations in the city.

The six new zones have been introduced to streamline e-rickshaw movement and ease the growing traffic congestion in Siliguri. To identify e-rickshaws and monitor their movement on designated routes, drivers are being provided with QR codes and route stickers.

However, despite the new routes and distribution of QR codes and route stickers, several e-rickshaw drivers are allegedly continuing to violate the rules. According to information, e-rickshaws assigned to Route 1 have been seen operating on Route 2. Several drivers have also not yet affixed the QR codes and route stickers provided by the police to their vehicles.

In view of the violations, the Siliguri Junction Traffic Guard has started a special drive. During the operation, e-rickshaws found operating on routes other than their designated routes are being stopped and action is being taken against them. Vehicles whose drivers have received QR codes and route stickers but have not affixed them are also being identified.

Police personnel are affixing the QR codes and route stickers to the concerned e-rickshaws on the spot and warning drivers to follow the prescribed rules.

The traffic police has made it clear that every e-rickshaw driver must operate only on the designated route and that the QR code and route sticker issued by the police must be displayed on the vehicle. The Siliguri Junction Traffic Guard said the drive will continue and stricter action will be taken against drivers violating the rules in the coming days.
