Siliguri’s Richa Ghosh selected in the Indian team for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup

Siliguri, 13th January: Siliguri’s 16-year old batswoman Richa Ghosh was the only surprise in the 15-member Indian Women’s squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia next month.


According to the announcement, Richa, a resident of Subhas Pally, Siliguri, has been named in the 15-member Indian National Women’s Cricket team. The five-member National women’s selection committee rewarded the 16-year-old, from Siliguri, for her consistent performances at the domestic level.

Richa Ghosh arrived at Siliguri from Kolkata, on Monday. Upon her arrival, an influx of people was witnessed at her house to congratulate her. The Siliguri Municipal Corporation Mayor Ashok Bhattacharya, District Trinamool Congress President Ranjan Sarkar, and the members of various sports organizations congratulated and felicitated her.
Addressing the reporters of Siliguri Times, Richa stated that she was excited to play for India. Richa further stated that Sachin Tendulkar was her inspiration and her family has always been supportive.


The selectors were also impressed by Richa’s approach in the recently-concluded Challengers Trophy, where she played two important knocks of 25 and 36 for India-B in difficult situations. The residents of Siliguri are proud of Richa’s achievement.

Before the T20 World Cup, the Indian team will battle against England and Australia in a tri-series from January 31st.
