Siliguri, 07th September: The Siliguri Traffic Police have accelerated the process of determining designated routes for e-rickshaws (Totos) to regulate their movement and control traffic congestion in the city. Following Route 1, the process of issuing QR codes and identification stickers to around 2,000 e-rickshaws operating on Route 2 has now begun.
The traffic police have planned to divide the city into six designated routes to regulate e-rickshaw operations. As part of the process, e-rickshaws operating on Route 1 were identified earlier. Now, Route 2 e-rickshaw drivers are being informed about their designated route and provided with QR codes and orange identification stickers.
The process began on Monday at the old Pradhan Nagar Police Station premises in Mallaguri under the initiative of the Siliguri Junction Traffic Guard and Panitanki Traffic Guard. Around 1,000 e-rickshaw drivers were provided with QR codes and stickers in the first phase. The remaining 1,000 drivers are expected to receive the QR codes and stickers on Tuesday.
