Cannabis smuggling attempt foiled, one arrested with 38 kg of cannabis at NJP Railway Station

Siliguri, 07th September: The GRP SOG and NJP GRP conducted an operation at NJP Railway Station on Monday afternoon and recovered around 38 kilograms of cannabis from the reservation coach of a Rajdhani Express train. One passenger was arrested in connection with the seizure. The seized cannabis is reportedly worth lakhs of rupees in the market.

The arrested accused has been identified as Ajay Kumar (45), a resident of Bihar.

According to police sources, Ajay Kumar had boarded the Rajdhani Express from Dibrugarh in the guise of a passenger with the intention of travelling to Patna. After receiving confidential information that he was carrying cannabis, the GRP SOG team began monitoring his activities.

On Monday afternoon, after the Rajdhani Express arrived at Platform Number 6 of NJP Railway Station, the GRP SOG and NJP GRP teams conducted a search operation in the reservation coach. Acting on suspicion, police deboarded Ajay Kumar from the train and searched his belongings.

During the search, a large quantity of cannabis was recovered from his trolley bag. The seized cannabis weighed around 38 kilograms, following which Ajay Kumar was arrested.

The accused will be produced before the Jalpaiguri Court on Tuesday. The GRP SOG and NJP GRP are investigating the case.
