Siliguri, 28th September: Tension erupted in Palpara, Adarsh Nagar under Ward No. 04 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation following the mysterious death of 16-year-old minor girl Mishtu Das.
Some unidentified people allegedly assaulted and vandalised the house of Shahid Alam alias Ayush, the minor boyfriend taken into safe custody in connection with the case. Several people were reportedly injured in the incident.
In connection with Mishtu Das’s mysterious death, Khalpara Outpost Police had taken Shahid Alam alias Ayush and two other minors into safe custody. The three were produced before the Darjeeling Juvenile Justice Board on Monday.
The situation reportedly turned tense late on Sunday night in Palpara, Adarsh Nagar. After receiving information about the disturbance, police forces from Khalpara Outpost and Siliguri Police Station reached the spot in large numbers.
Police brought the situation under control after considerable efforts and restored calm in the area. Those injured in the incident were taken to Siliguri District Hospital for treatment.
Following the incident, police have maintained a close watch on the area. Efforts are also underway to identify and trace the unidentified people allegedly involved in the assault and vandalism.
