Siliguri: Multi-storey construction near Dhakeshwari Temple alleged to be illegal, sparks tension

Siliguri, 28th September: Tension has surfaced over an alleged illegal multi-storey construction near Dhakeshwari Temple along Eastern Bypass in Siliguri, close to the Angra Jhora. Local residents have been raising complaints about the construction for a long time.

According to local residents, the multi-storey building was constructed without the necessary approval, causing the road in the area to become narrower and creating difficulties for residents on a daily basis.

Residents alleged that they had repeatedly brought the matter to the attention of the local MLA and various district administration officials over the past few years, but no effective action was taken. They further claimed that administrative officials, along with the Rajganj BDO and the local MLA, had visited the site and instructed Dabgram-II Gram Panchayat to take necessary action. However, residents alleged that the instructions were not implemented.

The situation reportedly escalated after members of the family associated with the alleged illegal construction were accused of vandalising a neighbour’s house. According to local sources, a dispute between the two families had been ongoing for a long time. The incident reportedly triggered tension in the area.

Following the incident, a written complaint was lodged at Ashighar Outpost.

Local residents have questioned how the alleged illegal construction has continued for so long despite repeated complaints and alleged administrative intervention. They have demanded immediate action against the construction and called for steps to restore normalcy in the area.

Attempts were made to contact the owner of the multi-storey building regarding the allegations, but no response was received.
