Siliguri, 28th September: More than three and a half years have passed without a permanent vice-chancellor at North Bengal University (NBU), with the university facing an ongoing administrative deadlock amid the absence of a full-time vice-chancellor.
Demanding the immediate appointment of a permanent vice-chancellor, the Akhil Bhartiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh staged a protest in Siliguri on Monday.
The protest march began from the statue of Panchanan Barma, passed through Gate No. 2 of the university and concluded at the administrative building.
The organisation demanded that a permanent vice-chancellor be appointed at the university at the earliest. It said discussions had been held with the Chancellor and the state government over the issue, and memoranda had also been submitted.
The organisation said it now hopes that the new government will take steps to address the issue.
Besides the vice-chancellor, several other key posts at North Bengal University, including those of registrar, finance officer and controller, are also lying vacant.
