Siliguri, 28th September: Former minister and CPI(M) leader Ashok Bhattacharya has warned that he will personally break the iron barricade if Fuleshwari Railway Gate is not reopened immediately, amid growing anger among local residents over the closure.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Bhattacharya said the railway gate has been closed for the double-line work between Siliguri Junction and NJP, causing severe inconvenience to local residents.
Residents are currently using an underpass as an alternative route. However, the condition of the underpass is also poor, with dirty water accumulating in several sections and the road damaged at multiple places.
As a result, pedestrians and motorists are reportedly facing difficulties while commuting through the underpass. Local residents have demanded that the problems be resolved at the earliest, warning that the situation could worsen if no action is taken.
Bhattacharya further claimed that there are plans to close several other railway gates in the city. He said no railway gate would be allowed to remain closed in the public interest and warned of a larger movement if necessary.
