Siliguri resident duped of over Rs 60 lakhs, fraudster arrested from Patna

Siliguri, 28th September: Siliguri Cyber Crime team has arrested a youth from Patna in a fraud case. The arrested youth has been identified as Ravishek Kumar (27), a resident of Bengali Tola Indira Nagar, of Patna.


Reportedly, at the end of June, a woman from Siliguri had come across a distributorship ad of ITC on social media. After this, the woman went to the concerned department and after looking into it she finalized the deal. During this, the woman also paid a sum of Rs 62 lakh 32 thousand. However, even after a lapse of several days, she did not get the distributorship as per the deal.

When the woman suspected of being scammed, she lodged a written complaint about the incident in cyber cell on September 03. During the investigation, the cybercrime team learned that a gang from Patna, Bihar has carried out the said fraudulent incident. The team also came to know that Rs 9 lakh has been transferred to a bank account of a youth named Ravishek Kumar. After which, with the help of the same name, the team of cyber reached Patna, the capital of Bihar, to nab the accused.


After arresting the youth on the charge of scam, the police and the accused reached Siliguri this morning and presented him in court. It is being told that the cybercrime team will appeal for a 14-day remand from the judge to the accused youth for further investigation.
