Siliguri Municipal Corporation observed “Quit India Movement”

Siliguri, 09th August: during the celebration of the 81st year of Quit India Movement, Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb declared that the altar of the martyr will be renovated with full dignity and respect. 08th August 1942 was the day when Mahatma Gandhi first declared this movement to attain Independence. Today, the movement marks its 81st-year completion and was celebrated by the Siliguri Municipal Corporation.


The day was observed in the premises of Siliguri Police Station. Siliguri’s Mayor Goutam Deb and other officials paid tribute to the heroes of the nation by offering flowers at their altar. Also, the National flag was unfurled.

During this, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, Commissioner Sonam Wangdi Bhutia and other councilors were present. In this regard, Mayor Goutam Deb said that the martyr altar will be renovated as it was not properly maintained for a long time. They will renovate it with full respect and in a dignified manner.
