Siliguri, 04th July: Bhakti Nagar police have exposed a theft racket operating inside a reputed shopping mall on Sevoke Road, arresting two accused shoplifters along with a shopkeeper who allegedly purchased the stolen goods.
According to reports, repeated incidents of theft of expensive grocery items had been taking place inside the mall for several days. Following the complaints, the mall security team reviewed CCTV footage to identify the culprits.
The footage reportedly showed two youths entering the mall posing as customers and stealing high-value grocery products whenever an opportunity arose, before fleeing the premises.
Acting on the findings, security personnel kept the suspects under close watch. On Friday, the two accused once again entered the mall as customers and were caught by security staff while attempting to exit with stolen goods.
Bhakti Nagar police were immediately informed, and both accused were taken into custody after reaching the spot. They have been identified as Divyaraj Gurung and Roshan Chhetri, residents of Jaigaon in Alipurduar district.
During interrogation, police stated that the accused revealed they used to sell the stolen items to a grocery shop in Salugara.
Based on this information, police conducted a raid at the shop and arrested the shopkeeper, identified as Ravi Prasad, who allegedly used to purchase the stolen goods.
All three accused have been produced before the Jalpaiguri court for further legal proceedings.
