Siliguri, 26th November: All central trade unions and federations have called for an All-India strike today (November 26) against various policies of the central government. A mixed response has been received across the city since morning.
Government buses were spotted plying on the streets. Several markets, including Bidhan Market, were completely shut down. However, the situation is normal in the Siliguri Junction area. Buses of various routes were spotted departing from the Tenzing Norgay bus stand.
The bandh supporters took to the streets since morning. The Left leaders and activists staged a rally from Anil Biswas Bhawan in Hill cart road.
On the other hand, the supporters also organized a rally from Mallaguri and Court more and closed several banks, shops, and shopping malls in Burdwan Road, SF Road, and Hakimapara area. Traffic movement was also restricted near Anil Biswas Bhawan. As the day progressed, the effect of the bandh is being spotted across the city.
Meanwhile, members of the CPI(M) NJP local committee also took to the streets in Gate Bazar. Although railway services remain normal, NJP station was almost devoid of passengers.
