Siliguri, 26th September: A programme was organised by the Bengali and Political Science departments of Siliguri College to mark the 206th birth anniversary of Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. Minister Shankar Ghosh and other distinguished guests were present at the programme.
The programme recalled Vidyasagar’s significant contributions to education, social reform, the promotion of women’s education and the development of underprivileged sections of society. Speakers highlighted that his human values, progressive thinking and sense of responsibility towards society continue to inspire people.
Minister Shankar Ghosh said Vidyasagar was not only an educationist but also a social reformer and humanitarian. He said Vidyasagar’s ideals and thoughts remain equally relevant to the present generation.
