Siliguri, 26th September: In a crackdown on narcotics, Khalpara Outpost police conducted a raid in the Hemanta Basu Colony area late Friday night and recovered 278 grams of brown sugar along with Rs 5,08,750 in cash. One person has been arrested in connection with the case.
The arrested accused has been identified as Pradip Prasad, a resident of Ward No. 04 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
According to police sources, acting on a tip-off, a team from Khalpara Outpost raided Pradip Prasad’s house in Hemanta Basu Colony. During the search, police recovered a large quantity of brown sugar and cash from his possession. He was subsequently detained for questioning and later arrested.
Police said the seized brown sugar is estimated to have a market value of several lakhs of rupees. The investigation has also revealed that the accused was allegedly involved in the narcotics trade in the hills and Sikkim.
Police are also investigating his previous criminal record and possible links to the narcotics trade. The accused was produced before a Siliguri court on Saturday, where police sought his remand for further questioning.
