Siliguri, 26th September: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation carried out a demolition drive against unauthorised construction in the Santoshi Nagar area on Saturday, following a court order.
According to the Municipal Corporation, a three-storey building had been constructed without an approved plan in Lane No. 01 of Santoshi Nagar in Ward No. 05 of Siliguri. The Municipal Corporation had reportedly issued several notices regarding the construction, but they were ignored. A portion of the construction built over a drain had also been demolished earlier.
As the directives were still not implemented, the Municipal Corporation eventually approached the court. Following the court’s order, a bulldozer was deployed on Saturday and the unauthorised construction belonging to Surendra Sahani was demolished.
The Municipal Corporation stated that strict action would continue to be taken against unauthorised construction and illegal encroachment on public infrastructure.
